South Australia to stay GM-free
South Australia will maintain a ban on genetically modified (GM) crops, a move welcomed by environmental groups but widely criticised by the scientific community.
Premier Mike Rann and Agriculture Minister Rory McEwen said the current moratorium, due to expire at the end of April, would be continued to maintain the state's clean and green image.
The decision went against a report from South Australia's GM Crops Advisory Committee, which recommended lifting the ban across the state, except on Kangaroo Island.
It was also in contrast to the approval given to canola farmers in Victoria and NSW to start growing GM crops this year, but in line with similar moves by Western Australia and Tasmania.
Scientists said the decision was "astonishing" and "lacking courage and vision".
Ian Edwards, advisory group chairman with AusBiotech, Australia's biotechnology industry peak organisation, said the move went against market realities.
"They have instead pandered to fringe groups and have rendered a great disservice to the farmers of South Australia," Dr Edwards said.
Mr Rann said the government was yet to be convinced that allowing GM crops would have a positive impact on marketing the state's food and wine to important export destinations around the world.
"It makes sense for us to maintain our current position until there's more certainty regarding the impact of exporting GM grains," he said.
"We must be mindful that there's simply no turning back once the moratorium has been lifted.
"Maintaining the moratorium now will enable us to monitor developments elsewhere."
South Australian Greens MP Mark Parnell said the decision was to be applauded, but warned contamination of SA farms from GM crops grown in Victoria was now a threat.
"GM seeds will not respect state borders," he said.
"International experience shows that it is impossible to successfully segregate GM and non-GM crops."
Professor of Agricultural Biotechnology at Murdoch University, Mike Jones, said the decision showed the SA government lacked the courage and vision to follow the lead set by Victoria and NSW.
"Unfortunately scaremongering and minority interests have won over the huge weight of scientific evidence on the safety of GM crops and the benefits that GM crops can bring to farmers, human health and the environment," Prof Jones said.
Rick Roush, dean of food and land resources at the University of Melbourne, said there was abundant evidence that allowing GM crops would not impact on exports.
"I am absolutely astonished," Prof Roush said.
"There is abundant evidence that there are overwhelming economic advantages for farmers and advantages for the environment."
Senior lecturer in the department of microbiology and immunology at the University of Melbourne, David Tribe, also criticised the ban and said it was a pity that South Australian farmers would not get access to a range of technologies that were better for the environment.
"We have the situation where food prices are rising, there is global warming and there is a soft commodity boom and yet, sadly, people do not seem to be putting value on the need for innovative agricultural technology to meet those challenges," Dr Tribe said.
A dissenting voice in the scientific community came from Shawn Somerset, a senior lecturer in human nutrition at Griffith University, who said the extended ban offered breathing space to ensure there was no potential threat to human health.
"There is no evidence that current GM inventions that have been released will enhance human health, so from a health perspective this is a positive thing," Dr Somerset said.
"There is a real lack of evidence either way so caution is good.
"Once the horse has bolted, if we find a problem we can't turn back the hands of time."
The SA ban will come under review again in two years. "

Shalom beloved of Yahweh!
Consider these-how much chemicals are we consuming from crops, meats, fruits; liquids, water and drinks; and absorbing them through toiletries, daily household products; even vitamin supplements and drugs? Are we in a reality world? Are our lives being cherished, and health truly protected and promoted? Selah!! Or, are we being held against our wills and rights?
Creation is being corrupted. Genetically modifying crops nor anything else, is not of Elohim Yahweh, but going against HIS ordinances.
Could this be, Yahweh is provoking us who are sensitive to His Spirit, to live together, to grow our own crops?
Love and blessings,
Ester.

There exists one threat that is often overlooked. Some (many?) GE seeds/crops cannot reproduce themselves, but must be restocked from the engineering organization. With the advent of major world-wide climates changes - that shall continue no matter what man decides to do - may keep many GE crops from growing. That is, natural adaption. A solution is, of course, for GE crops designed for the expected mix of climate changes (wet to dry, cold to hot, etc.).

My personal thoughts on this are: When GE seeds and/or starter plants are not available, there will not exist sufficient "natural" grains and seeds to produce the food necessary to sustain our population, much less the world. Right now, there are seeds available to anyone who wishes to obtain and plant them. When GE seeds and plants are the norm, and must be obtained from the manufacturer, our food supply then becomes a "controlled substance", usually at the hands of the government. The implementations of such an arrangement are not pleasant to think upon.

Shalom bro Art!  Cheesy

Thank you for your response; may I add to it?   Smiley , GM/GE as you termed it, is specifically having the DNA of seeds 're-arranged', 'adapted', and literally changed-engineered, regardless of reactions to chain-links of living cells that would lead to drastic effects on nature and mankind-non-generative plants (like you mentioned) that go against "yielding seed after its kind" Gen 1 verses 11 onwards; leading to man reproducing himself genetically as well. I see it as progressive deception.

It is a step towards control in every sense, and rebelling against Elohim Yahweh's order, in order to damage (the environment) and rob (our health).
Remember the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy! And subtley! It is another great LIE!

One way is to store up NOW good, natural (organic if possible) seeds before they go out of stock!!

There are the disappearance reports of bees in US; of bees dying in their hives, some not even returning after leaving the hives; where will pollination come from?

Right bro Art, not pleasant thoughts at all! Cry

We are thankful we know for sure victory over dark forces belongs to our Elohim Yahweh, our part is to be wise and be prepared, to take precautions, to know what we are up against.

Honour and glory to Yahshuah,
Ester.

David versus Goliath in GMO Case.

(NaturalHealthNews) Percy Schmeiser has a check for $660 and a Right Livelihood Award to prove that sometimes the little guy wins. In a modern version of the David vs. Goliath story, a 77 year-old Saskatchewan farmer and his wife are now considered folk heroes following settlement of their legal battle with agribusiness giant Monsanto Canada Inc., after the company sued them for patent violation of genetically engineered canola seeds in 1997.

The Schmeisers were sued after plants from the genetically modified canola seeds were found on their farm near Bruno, Saskatchewan.

The company claimed that the Schmeisers had violated its patent on the seeds, which had been genetically modified to resist Roundup herbicide. The couple was accused of knowingly planting the seeds without paying the royalty fees to Monsanto, which sought damages for $400,000.

The Schmeiser's claimed they did not plant the seeds, and argued that the seeds blew onto their property from a nearby road or neighboring farm.

In 2004, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled in favor of Monsanto, saying that plant genes and modified cells can be patented. However, the court ruled the Schmeisers free of damages.

More of the genetically modified canola seeds appeared in the Schmeiser's field the following year. They pulled the plants out themselves and sent Monsanto a bill for $660.

Monsanto agreed to pay the costs associated with removing the canola seeds in 2005, but the Schmeisers refused the offer because the company insisted the couple sign a release stating they would not talk about the terms of the agreement.

"That release was a gag order", Mr. Schmeiser said. "We could never talk to anyone for the rest of our lives about what the terms of the settlement were. There was no way we were going to give up our freedom of speech to a corporation."

The Schmeisers filed a claim against Monsanto in small claims court. On March 19, 2008, Monsanto agreed out of court to pay the Schmeisers the $660 in settlement of their case without them signing the release. According to Mr. Schmeiser, "By settling out of court, Monsanto now realizes the seriousness of the liability issue."

While the final agreement with the Schmeisers does not prohibit them from talking about the terms of their settlement, several other Western Canadian farmers have agreed to sign Monsanto's standard release form.

"Although we are pleased Mr. Schmeiser finally approached us and agreed to settlement terms, it is frustrating that he essentially accepted the same offer we put before him in 2005," said Monsanto public affairs director Trish Jordan. "This entire matter could have been resolved more than two and a half years ago and Mr. Schmeiser would have saved himself some legal costs."

As a result of their fight with the giant corporation, the Schmeisers have achieved celebrity status and been invited to speak at universities and parliaments all over the world. Their appearance fees have helped them pay for much of their court costs.

In December, 2007, they were presented with the Right Livelihood Award, which is considered to be an alternative Nobel Prize.

Mr. Schmeiser doesn't grow canola on his farm anymore, and he rents out most of his land to other farmers. He hopes the fight to bring awareness of the issues surrounding genetically modified foods will continue."This is a great victory for farmers all over the world", he said. "Now they have at least an opportunity to have some recourse on a corporation when they are contaminated."

                                                  GMO Food Contamination is Forever

A top executive at Aventis CropScience, maker of Starlink Corn, said that the food supply will never be rid of the new strain of corn that the company genetically engineered at Research Triangle Park. The executive, John Wichtrich, called for a change in federal regulations to allow some level of the engineered StarLink corn in human food.
The product is now approved only for animal feed and industrial products such as ethanol.

But the environmental watchdog who first discovered the new corn in food objected sharply. "Aventis broke the promise of biotechnology," said Larry Bohlen of Friends of the Earth in Washington, D.C. "They were supposed to improve the quality of our food, not cause so many problems and introduce so much risk."

Wichtrich, general manager of Aventis in RTP, said that 437 million additional bushels of StarLink have been found in storage, which is much more than previously thought. About 50 million bushels of StarLink corn were grown under license during 2000, and Starlink was inadvertently mixed into another 20 million bushels.

Last fall, Bohlen discovered StarLink corn in Kraft taco shells at a Maryland grocery store. The discovery led to a recall of almost 300 food products. Now, Wichtrich said, "no matter how diligent our collective efforts are, we can never get to, or guarantee, 'zero.' "

Because the StarLink corn can never be cleaned out of the U.S. food supply, Wichtrich said, Aventis wants the Environmental Protection Agency to change its rules. The EPA now has a "zero-tolerance" policy, meaning it views any amount of the StarLink corn in the U.S. food supply as a violation.

One kernel of StarLink corn in a sample of 2,400 kernels would cause a load of corn to be rejected, Wichtrich said. EPA should give Aventis an exception or revise its policy to tolerate a certain level of StarLink in food, he said.
But Bohlen said, "Aventis is asking the government to legalize genetic pollution." Until the Centers for Disease Control finishes its study, no one will know whether the StarLink corn causes allergic reactions, he said.

CDC is investigating the claims of 44 people who said they got sick after eating corn products, he said.
Wichtrich said only dry-milled corn products -- those made from corn meal, grits and flour -- are in danger of being contaminated.
Wet milling, which produces corn syrup and oil, kills the protein, he said.
Aventis, which employs 550 people at its North America headquarters in RTP, has taken hundreds of angry phone calls from farmers, grain elevator managers and food processors. Aventis has 87 people working on rerouting the corn, and another group of scientists looking into the allergy question, Wichtrich said.

FDA Admits Cloned Meat, Milk May Have Already Entered Food Supply
David Gutierrez

January 28, 2009

(NaturalNews) The FDA has admitted that meat and milk from the offspring of cloned mammals such as cows, pigs, goats and sheep could very well have already entered the food supply in the United States.

"It is theoretically possible," agency spokesperson Siobhan DeLancey said.

In January, the FDA declared that foods derived from cloned animals and their offspring were safe for human consumption. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, however, asked food companies to voluntarily maintain a ban on products from clones.

The voluntary ban did not extend to the offspring of cloned animals.

Clones are organisms artificially developed directly from the DNA of a single organism, rather than the mixing that is difficult in sexual reproduction. They are made by implanting the nucleus of an adult cell into an egg cell, which is then incubated by a surrogate mother.

According to critics of the technology, very little research has been conducted on the safety of consuming meat or dairy products from clones or their offspring, thus making it premature to bring such products to market.

"It worries me that this technology is out of control in so many ways," said Charles Margulis of the Center for Environmental Health. He said that the FDA's announcement that clones' offspring might already been food supply "is just another element of that."

A number of major U.S. food producers have announced that they will not use any ingredients derived from cloned animals, due in part to safety concerns. Companies enforcing a ban on clone products include Smithfield Foods, General Mills, Campbell Soup, Nestle, California Pizza Kitchen, Supervalu, Kraft Foods and Tyson Foods, the largest meat company in the United States.

Kraft said that consumer demand influenced its decision.

"Research in the United States indicates that consumers are currently not receptive to ingredients from cloned animals," said Director of Corporate Affairs Susan Davison.

And then there's CLONED MEAT and Milk! Are we being fenced in to accept this as meat and food fit for consumption, besides ?!! Seems the walls are closing in on us, if not for ABBA's righteous judgement on its way.  Ester.

Chickens Not Fooled by GM Crops

If GM Crops Harm Animals, WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO YOU?

GM corn found itself in the hot seat late last year, after a highly reputable study commissioned by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety discovered that mice fed GM corn had significantly smaller and fewer offspring compared to the control group.
The lead author of the study stated there was a direct link between the GM diet and reduced fertility.
Likewise, Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds of Deception and Genetic Roulette, has documented 65 serious health risks from GM products of all kinds. Among them:
Offspring of rats fed GM soy showed a five-fold increase in mortality, lower birth weights, and the inability to reproduce
Male mice fed GM soy had damaged sperm
The embryo offspring of GM soy-fed mice had altered DNA functioning
Several US farmers reported sterility or fertility problems among pigs and cows fed on GM corn varieties
So the question is, what do these foods do to your body?
Personally, I strongly believe that genetically modified foods are a significant threat against the very sustainability of the human race.
The available research shows incriminating links between the side effects of GM foods and diseases that have skyrocketed since the release of GM ingredients into our food supply, such as autoimmune diseases and severe food allergies.
GM Foods are Flawed Scientific Dogma Run Amok

The well-known scientist Dr. Arpad Pusztai stated in an article last year,
“Reality really started to dawn on genetic scientists with the completion of the human genome project showing that the dogma of genetic determinism, the science basis of genetic engineering was untrue, as the less than 30,000 genes could not possibly code for the about 200,000 cellular proteins.
It was also realized that the about 97 percent non-gene “junk” DNA has a decisive role in the genome. Our primitive splicing techniques together with our inability to direct the transgene into “safe” zones in the genome, if such zones exist at all, were shown to lead to insertional mutagenesis with unpredictable consequences.
Although it is impossible to forecast in advance what these consequences for health and the environment will be, a few independent studies have already shown… new anti-nutrients, toxins, and allergens were formed as by-products of gene-splicing, and other, mainly unpredictable immunity-related problems also occurred.
… the industry still hangs on to the less costly but unscientific principle of “substantial equivalence”, i.e. the near identity of the GE crop with its parent line, as their main “safety testing,” and only commission simple contract animal feeding/production studies as a last resort to support their case of human/animal safety.
In fact, there are hardly more than over two dozens of published academic animal safety studies, and the results of only one human trial have been published, and even that was not a full clinical study (Netherwood et al. 2004).”
Dr. Pusztai’s earlier research into the effects of GM potatoes showed that rats suffered from weakened immune systems and stunted growth of their internal organs, including the liver, kidneys and brain, on such a diet. There is also compelling evidence indicating GM potatoes may cause cancer.
As is frequently the case, Dr. Pusztai’s disturbing findings of the human nutritional consequences of GM foods cost him his job. The British Rowett Research Institute fired him in 1998, as the results had far-reaching implications for the biotech industry, which insisted that GM products would not have any adverse effects on human health.
You are Part of a Massive Experiment

Some seem to believe that genetically modified animal feed will not cause any undue effects in the human body. This is flawed thinking at its finest. After all, we are part of the food chain!
Those who believe that what they eat will not affect them simply do not understand the basics of how the human body works.
The Soil Association, a British environmental charity, stated in their report, “GM Crops—The Health Effects,” that international research has found that milk, eggs and meat from GM-fed animals still contain the foreign DNA originally inserted into the GM crop.
The authors concluded, that “there are very good scientific reasons for being concerned about the safety of GM crops.”
With the abundance of GM ingredients currently being used in processed foods of all kinds, you are likely exposed to FAR more GM DNA than you ever thought.
Conventional Media Silence

Did you see the headline, “The American Academy Of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) Calls For Immediate Moratorium On Genetically Modified Foods”?
It’s quite likely you didn’t, but as recently as May 19th, 2009, the AAEM sent out a press advisory calling on physicians to “educate their patients, the medical community, and the public to avoid GM (genetically modified) foods when possible, and provide educational materials concerning GM foods and health risks.”
They also advised that physicians should “consider the role of GM foods in their patients' disease processes.”
In their position paper, the AAEM states that several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM foods, including:
Infertility
Immune problems
Accelerated aging
Insulin regulation
Changes in major organs
Gastrointestinal changes and problems
Do you suffer from any of these ailments? And if so, have you taken a long, hard look at what’s in your diet?
Perhaps you should.
The AAEM concludes,
“There is more than a casual association between GM foods and adverse health effects. There is causation, as defined by recognized scientific criteria. The strength of association and consistency between GM foods and disease is confirmed in several animal studies.”
Shocking Examples of Harm Caused by GM Crops

A study in the European Journal of Histochemistry reported that more than half the babies of mother rats fed GM soy died within three weeks, compared to a 10 percent death rate among the control group fed natural soy.

Since 2003 Indian farmers have been reporting deaths of thousands of sheep and other small livestock who graze on post-harvest fields. At no time before in India’s history has cattle died from this practice.

In 2006, more than 1,800 sheep died after grazing on post-harvest Bt cotton crops in four Indian villages. The symptoms and post-mortem findings strongly suggested they died from severe toxicity, most likely from the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxin, which is incorporated in the genetically modified crops. Bt is a naturally occurring, toxic bacteria common in soils across the globe. Several strains can infect and kill insects.

In a recent article, Jeffrey M. Smith describes how about two dozen U.S. farmers reported that thousands of pigs became sterile after consuming certain GM corn varieties. Some had false pregnancies; others gave birth to bags of water.

Cows and bulls also became infertile when fed the same corn.

Likewise, India has reported that buffalo that ate GM cottonseed had complications such as premature deliveries, spontaneous abortions, infertility, and prolapsed uteruses. Many of the offspring died.
Which Foods are Most Likely to be Genetically Modified … and How Can You Avoid Them?

Nearly all of these foods are GM, and therefore best to avoid:

• Soy
• Corn
• Cottonseed
• Canola
It would also be wise to limit products made from these ingredients, such as vegetable oils, maltodextrin, and high-fructose corn syrup. In fact, because corn and soy are so widely used in processed foods, at least 70 percent of the processed foods at your supermarket contain GM ingredients.

That’s seven out of every 10 products!
Other GMO products include:
• Some varieties of zucchini, crookneck squash, and papayas from Hawaii
• Milk containing rbGH
• Rennet (containing genetically modified enzymes) used to make hard cheeses
• Aspartame (NutraSweet)
Avoiding all of the products listed above, unless they are certified organic, is one way to cut down on your intake of GM foods. Buying products that are certified organic or that say non-GMO are other ways you can limit your family‘s risk from GM foods, as organic foods are not allowed to contain GM ingredients.

You can also tell GM foods by their PLU sticker:
A four-digit number means the produce is conventionally grown
A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it's organic
A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it's GM
Particularly in the United States, where GM products are not required to be labeled, it can be difficult to eat a GM-free diet. But there are some resources available to help you.
I recommend downloading the Non-GMO Shopping Guide, issued by the Institute for Responsible Technology. They also offer some helpful basic advice for how to avoid GMO’s when eating in restaurants.
In conclusion, remember to never underestimate the power of your pocketbook. If more of us begin to refuse GM foods, food manufacturers will have no choice but to listen.
One thing is for sure: if we do not put a stop to the spread of GM foods, our future generations may be forever saddled with needless health problems
