The word generation always gets me. I would like your input on how many years is a generation and where you are getting your information. This is open to all who would like to respond to this post.

My understanding of generation is like my father is a generation and I am a generation and my child would still be another generation. In this example I have three generations so how long is a generation? My father is older than I am and my child is younger than I so do I take an average? Or do I scrap that and look to see how long an average male in America lives? Or do I look for an average life span of a male in Israel.

Is there a different way the Hebrews defined generation? Or has this word generation been mistranslated from the Hebrew to the English?

Thanks for posting this question.  I found it really interesting to think about the differences between what the Scriptures say (see Eliyahu's quote below) and the various ways I've heard this talked about by different peoples/cultures/non-biblical literature, etc.

Shalom! May I join in? I have no problems with generations. LOL! Grin

I agree, a generation is the course of an individual's lifetime, but,  Grin  Gen 6: 3 YHWH said-yet his days be a 120 years!!
Bro Eliyahu, and Dawn, 70-80 (general lifetime)  is way too short!! Most healthy folks live past that to 90 and more!
Israeli custom wishes a person to live to 120 at birthday celebrations, and I'm totally for that!  Cheesy
How about "I shall not die, but live, to declare the works of YHWH"-Psalms 118:17.

In Hebrew, Generations is to-led-aw'  meaning :-
descendants, results, proceedings, generations, genealogies, account of men and their descendants
genealogical list of one's descendants, one's contemporaries, course of history (of creation etc)
Thr root word is yalad, meaning to bring forth as in childbirth, to bear, to beget.

Adam's generation lasted down to 930 years, he lived to see the many, many, many generations of his children, grandchildren,
greatgrandchildren! Takes one's breath away!  Cheesy
Not to mention Avraham who lived to 175.

The way to go of course is live healthy as much as possibly can, in spite of the pollution (in every aspect)  around us.

"In our generation" is not the genealogy line, it simply means in our lifetime, presently, regardless how long more we shall live , or how long we have lived already as an individual.  Does this make sense?   Cool
